MESA, Ariz. - There are as many roadside motels and hotels in Phoenix's
East Valley as you could shake your sticks at. Recommending one
over the other comes down the nitty gritty throw ins like free breakfast,
happy hour, massages . . .well, maybe not massages.
The Holiday Inn on 1600 S. County Club Drive (480-964-7000)
in Mesa has none of the above mentioned luxuries. But massages
aside, it is the place to stay while in the midst of your summertime
East Valley golf binge.
First, a rather plush room with either one king size bed or
two double beds is going for only $54 this summer - the cost of
a Motel 6 in Phoenix during the season. Second, the pool is large.
No, make that epic. The Inn claims that it is the largest in the
Valley, and once you see this virtual ocean in a box, it's not
likely that you'll be able to refute that claim.
The service is top notch and efficient, and there is a tasty
little lounge and restaurant on site where the beers will be as
cold as you putter was that day.
The Holiday is about a ten minute drive from both the Apache and
Longbow courses, and just a five iron from Las Sendas, Superstition
Springs, and other great East Valley golf.
The single greatest feature of the Holiday Inn? Located next
to the front desk are miniature post cards with pictures of some
of the Valley's best golf courses, with directions and phone numbers
on the back.
CHIP SHOTS
Spouse and kids ready for a red-hot visit to the East Valley,
but would just as soon lay down in an asphalt parking lot than
go golfing in triple digit heat? The Holiday Inn is across the
street from Golf Land - a water park and miniature golfing center
that will keep the kids (and adults!) cool until its time to pool
jump over to the ocean at the Inn.
It wouldn't be right unless money was being spent exorbitantly
while you where chasing the white ball. The Fiesta Mall, a scant
five-minute drive east from the Holiday Inn on highway 60 offers
the full array of departments stores and mall type restaurants.
The Holiday Inn, Longbow, Apache combination is one of an almost
infinite number of stay and play options. Contact Arizona Golf
